Environmental Initiatives
Tree Plantation & Green Development
Since 2004, I have actively engaged in large-scale tree plantation programs across schools, public spaces, and villages. Between 2019 and 2025 alone, I distributed and planted over 24,000 saplings completely free of cost, encouraging widespread community participation in environmental conservation. Within my school premises, I have successfully planted more than 2,000 trees using innovative and creative methods that transform waste into productive resources.
My approach to tree plantation includes unique methods such as:
- Planting in plastic bottles, PVC pipes, and green coconuts
- Using waste tires, old jeans, and shoes as planters
- Creating hanging gardens with over 800 suspended plants
- Developing vertical gardens using 250 bottles mounted on two school walls
- Establishing a medicinal plant garden with more than 200 varieties
The school now boasts a diverse green environment where students learn practical environmental conservation. Each child has been assigned responsibility for one tree, and after school hours, children water their assigned trees with water from their bottles. This hands-on approach has made students deeply connected to environmental protection. The school compound has been developed with both indoor and outdoor green spaces that serve as living laboratories for environmental education.
Zero Waste & Eco Innovation
Under my guidance, the school has been successfully developed into a Zero Waste School, Green School, and Eco School, recognized by multiple environmental organizations. I initiated an innovative project of collecting plastic waste bottles and creating 1,500 eco-bricks, which earned recognition in the Guinness World Record. This project not only reduced plastic waste but also educated students about creative waste management solutions.
Key waste management initiatives include:
- Preparing compost from school waste for organic farming
- Creating eco-friendly products from plastic and cloth waste
- Installing a rainwater harvesting system for water conservation
- Annually distributing cloth and paper bags to reduce plastic usage in the community
The waste-to-best approach has transformed how students view discarded materials. Even broken syntex tanks are cut into two parts and used for plantation. Students actively participate in composting, learn about organic farming, and understand the complete lifecycle of waste materials. This practical education has created environmental consciousness that extends beyond school boundaries into their homes and communities.
Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation
I have installed and distributed more than 1,000 bird nests, water bowls, and swings across the school and community to support local wildlife. The school has developed dedicated spaces for birds with proper feeding arrangements. Students prepare natural hand wash using water from soapnut (aritha) plants grown in the school before their midday meals, learning about natural alternatives to chemical products.
Wildlife conservation efforts include:
- Creating bird sanctuaries within school premises
- Organizing regular animal feeding programs
- Establishing water sources for birds and animals
- Training children in understanding local biodiversity
Students have become deeply fascinated with trees planted both inside and outside the school premises. They learn to identify different species, understand their ecological importance, and actively participate in maintaining these green spaces. This connection with nature has fostered a generation of environmentally conscious citizens who understand their responsibility toward protecting biodiversity.
